Located in the La Romana province, Playa Bayahibe is a 66 Km drive from Punta Cana International Airport, thanks to the recent opening of the Autopista del Coral.

This highway is considered the most important infrastructure work for the tourism industry in the Dominican Republic, since it facilitates road communication between the tourist enclaves of La Romana, Bayahíbe, Higüey Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana, Macao and Uvero Alto, which represent around 60% of the hotel offer in the country.

It is estimated that around 20,000 vehicles per day travel on the highway. On August 8, 2012, the highway was officially inaugurated by President Leonel Fernández.

    Accomodation

Bayahibe has several independent hotels, Bed & Breakfast, and lodges. They provide more opportunities to explore the local cuisine, life and culture.

For those who want not to worry about anything: where, what, when to eat or drink, then four and five star 24 hour all-inclusive service resorts are available: Hilton, Iberostar, Be Live Canoa, Dreams, Catalonia, Viva Wyndham.

Depending on the booking type, a butler is assigned and can take care of many administrative things, like making reservations at the a-la-carte restaurants, booking day trips, diving/surfing equipment rental, arranging airport transfers or even surprising you with a platter of fruits.

    Activities

While the Atlantic Ocean side of the Dominican Republic is a bit rough and great for kitesurfing, windsurfing, or for just plunging in, the Caribbean Sea at the south coast is tranquil with less currents and waves and with white coral sand beaches, great for families with children… or old people.

Bayahibe is also a common place for golfers and for those who enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing, or stand-up-paddle-boarding.

Bayahibe is the nearest point to take boat trips to Catalina Island and Saona Island and is considered the best location for scuba diving in the Dominican Republic.

There are over 20 official dive sites located near Bayahíbe and all are accessible from dive boats. There are three shipwrecks in the area including the Atlantic Princess, St George and Coco.

    Climate

The weather in La Romana averages between a low of 21°C (Jan-Feb) and a high of 32°C(Aug). Hours of sunshine can vary from 8 to 10 hours. The seawater temperature will vary from 26°C (Feb) to 29°C(Sep).

The wetter season lasts 7.1 months, from April 28 to December 1st, with a greater than 15% chance of a given day being a wet day. Least humidity is in the winter months, most comfortable being February-March.
