City Hall in Antwerp, Belgium
Erected between 1561 and 1565 after designs made by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt and several other architects and artists, this Renaissance building incorporates both Flemish and Italian influences.
The Town Hall is composed of:
• the Leys room, a hall of honor for welcoming guests; the portraits of the Dukes of Brabant appear above the doors;
• a small room Leys;
• the Wedding hall with frescoes by Victor Lagye;
• the Promenade Hall, including the dress Queen Astrid wore when she entered in 1935;
• the Militia Room with a large fireplace;
• the Council chamber where the communal councilors meet;
• cabinet of the mayor with a fireplace by Coecke van Aalst.
The city hall is designed in special architectural style with a combination between Gothic and early Renaissance, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This style is almost exclusively found in this region of Europe.
The Antwerp Stadhuis became an exemplar for the new renaissance style in architecture in the Netherlands and Northern Europe. (Wikivoyage, Wikipedia)
